All students participate in art, music, and physical education. Instrumental music lessons are provided beginning in grade 4 for string instruments and grade 5 for band instruments. Letters regarding instrumental music lessons are sent home with students in the fall. Students in grades 3-6 can also be trained to act as "Conflict Managers" to help their peers resolve conflicts that arise at recess.
The Twain School building site includes 14 acres with an arboretum, three soccer fields, long jump and track area, as well as multiple play areas for students. There are 23 classrooms, including art and music, and a large, beautiful library with a story well and computer lab.
Parents at Twain are supportive of the educational program and are frequently involved. The parent organization (PTO) sponsors a variety of activities including individual student pictures, 4th grade field trip to the "School of the Wild", school suppers, the City High Homecoming Parade, a spring carnival, the ice cream social and fund-raising activities.
The Twain staff is dedicated to providing the best educational program possible. We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) school and pride ourselves on being a Respectful, Responsible and Caring community. We strive to meet the individual needs of students, to provide a variety of experiences, and to foster a positive climate in which learning can thrive.
